Since 2002 Carrick Rangers have been at the forefront of football development in Northern Ireland through its various education programmes. The Football Development Centre was established as the community educational outreach arm of Carrick Rangers Football Club, with the objective of developing Carrick Rangers in the community by using football as a vehicle to protray important safety and educational issues.

During the last five years some 8000 participants have taken part in coaching courses, while our volunteer educational programme has enabled more than one hundred coaches to gain qualifications. Carrick Rangers boasts one of the most qualified volunteer coaching structures in the country with twenty UEFA B coaches or above at the club.

The clinic is ideal for all abilities and offers something for everyone, from fun activities, mini world cup, inflatable challenge to technique and tactical awareness.

Cultural exchange to Glasgow
 
45 young people and coaches from carrickfergus took part in a cultural exchange programme with the Old Firm Alliance. This will involved receiving coaching from coaches at Rangers and Celtic football clubs, anti sectarianism workshops, ground tour and watching a match. This trip has been made possible by funding received from Carrickfergus Community Safety Partnership and the EU programme for Peace and Reconciliation

Funding received from the Department for Social Development will see the entrance to Taylors Avenue transformed with a 20 metre mural on the front walls. In addition two smaller murals will be placed at the main stand within the ground each of which will be designed from a local schools competition.

Coaches Attend Child Protection Award
18 Coaches from Carrick Rangers told part in the IFA Child Protection Award. The course was funded by the Local Community Fund through the Department for Social Development. It is a vital course to ensure the safety of players and coaches and shows the committment of the club to good practice. Work on these will commence in February 2008.

Carrick Rangers Mini Soccer Youth Academy recently won the CIS monthly merit award.
 

The recognition from this award is testament to the hard work that goes in behind the sense’s to make the centre a success.

 

The Mini Soccer Centre plays a key role in encouraging boys and girls of all abilities to participate in football, with more than 100 children attending each Saturday morning. The centre provide fun and informal football coaching based around small-sided games for girls and boys aged between six and 12.

Sports Minister Edwin Poots paid a visit to Carrickfergus
 
 The Sporting Business Masterclass was the latest unique event from Carrick Rangers Football Development Centre.
 The event  attracted more than 100 students from Carrickfergus College and Carrickfergus Grammar School and was delivered in partnership with Young Enterprise NI and funded by the Department for Social Development - Local Community Fund. 

 

The aim of this unique programme was to develop a better understanding of the relationship between education, business, sport and community relations in order to highlight the vision of a shared future. Guest speakers on the day were Alan Boyd from Rangers, Mark Reid from Celtic, Alan Snoody and Michael Boyd from the IFA, Adrian Gross and Bryan Nieman American Basketball players and Minister for sport Edwin Poots.

Rangers and Celtic visit Taylors Avenue

The Old Firm Alliance Programme uses football coaching as a vehicle to influence the attitudes and behaviour of young people with respect to issues such as healthy lifestyles, combating anti-social behaviour and challenging racism and sectarianism.
 
It involves a programme of football coaching delivered by coaches from Celtic and Rangers football clubs in primary schools. Wednesday 6th November saw Alan Boyd from Rangers and Mark Reid From Celtic take a series of coaching sessions for local primary school children.
