Community Safety Road Show

Local Primary schools are benefiting from the community safety road shows organised by Carrick Rangers Football Development Centre funded by the EU Programme for Peace and Reconciliation measure 3.1 and in conjunction with the PSNI and Housing Executive.

The road show includes a curriculum skills programme aimed at developing a range of core abilities. Having taken part in the coaching classes, children are then given vital information in relation to community safety.

Kyle Ferguson the Director of Educational Development said that the road shows used football as the vehicle to spread an important community safety message, as such primary children are able to learn new skills and understand the importance of community safety in a fun environment. The partnership created with the PSNI and Housing Executive was a sign of what can be achieved in the local community to benefit the children in the Borough.

The road shows are available to all local primary schools and include the use of giant inflatables, which we will take to each school in the Borough for an afternoon. During this time all children in the school can take part in the activities and competitions.

Each school will produce a skills test winner who will go forward to the Peace Cup Tournament to compete against players from all other schools in Carrickfergus. To book a place call Kyle on 07766740801.

Twilight Football League

Carrickfergus Twilight Football League a joint initiative designed through a partnership between Carrick Rangers, Carrickfergus Community Safety partnership, and Carrickfergus PSNI,  supported by the EU Programme for Peace and Reconciliation and The Department of Social Development. The league has ran for the past ten weeks at Taylors Avenue, home to Carrick Rangers from 8pm to 11pm and was organised to develop cross-community relations while promoting fair play and most importantly providing a structure where all players can enjoy themselves.

The league has been developed to address the social issues within Carrickfergus and to fill the void for young people on Saturday evening. The Carrickfergus Twilight League provides structured activities using football as the vehicle for integration within the community. Young players have the opportunity to take part in an environment of safety, competition and enjoyment.

Saturday 12th May saw the league reach its conclusion with 100 players taking part in the weekly competition, under the supervision of Carrick Rangers Colts coaches.

Kyle Ferguson Education Director at Carrick Development Centre said ‘The league was a great opportunity for local teenagers to come together and take part in a structured league. The partnership with the PSNI has proven a great success for all concerned with anti social behaviour showing a substantial fall during the period the league was running. A selection of the players will now be chosen to take part in a cross border competition later in the summer.
